-Friday Evening, Drew's Sports Bar, Liberty Av. Pittsburgh-
"What the fuck is THAT?" Brian frowns.
"It's a leaflet Brian. Remember when YOU used them all the time to market and promote everything that moved back in the day long before social media?"
"Don't I know it Theodore," Brian says "But what's with that naked guy picture?" he rises his brow in discontent.
" Young naked guys never bothered you before Bri… why the sudden change of heart?" Ted snorts. "Could it be that a certain blond was finally able to tame the beast?"
"Will you shut the fuck up? He's got nothing to do with it," Brian replies absently. "Next round's on YOU by the way," he hisses as he signals the bartender. After ordering a double shot of JB and taking it down in one gulp Brian snatches the leaflet out of Ted's hands. Placing it over the bar counter he starts to scan silently through it. "Planning a nice vacay in Northern California during Pride for yourself and the hubby I see…" Brian glares at Ted after a short pause.
"I was checking up some options. Blake will be in Northern California volunteering at the Hilary Clinton campaign the same week of the SF Pride so I thought I might travel there and spend the weekend with him," Ted nods.
"That's a wonderful idea Teddi," Debbie intervenes walking from behind the counter where she was taking care of the stock. "Hey Brian why won't you take an impromptu trip out West to visit Sunshine while he's there? Might do you a world of good," She winks at her favorite son.
Brian shrugs. "It's a business trip Deb. He's checking new galleries with his art agent. Besides we're not a married couple. Justin is not required to report his every move to me,"
"Yet," Emmett quips from behind the bar as he joins his friends.
"What was that Honeycutt?" Brian gives Emmett a death glare.
"I said YET… You and Justin are not a married couple YET, " Emmett explains.
"I've heard what you said, you don't have to repeat it," Brian rants.
"But there's always hope. Take Drew and me for example…" Emmett exclaims.
"I could do without the lecture thank you very much," Brian cuts Emmett off. "Thanks for the drinks Schmidt, " he tells Ted abruptly "It's been a long day and I guess I should be heading out. I'd hate to be stuck in traffic on my way home,"
The guys around the bar wave at him as Brian walks out. The place- formally known as Woody's- has been renamed Drew's a couple years ago after Debbie and Emmett bought the place and made some well deserved renovations. Even with it's new face lift the place still attracts the 'old guard' of gay Pittsburgh –especially Brian and the gang who always felt so at home in the previous iconic establishment.
"When is Sunshine coming back from San Francisco anyway?" Debbie wonders outloud after Brian leaves. "Brian's so miserable without him not to mention horny as hell," she then continues with a hearty laugh.
"I think I can guess why Brian was more grumpy than usual this evening Deb," Ted says. "See?" he points at the leaflet. "Look at the date of this charity event 'San Francisco Bares- Strip Off With Pride on July 11th' , "
"What's on July 11th?" Emmett asks.
"It's a day after Brian's birthday," Ted points out.
"Oh wow, You're right Teddi, I totally forgot about it. " Emmett says.
"Isn't there something we could do?" Debbie asks.
"You of all people should know that Brian Kinney doesn't do birthdays Deb. I mean… Brian is going to be Forty Seven. To him it's practically nothing short of Dead Man Walking,"" Emmett sighs dramatically.
"Oh but wait, there's more," Ted-who celebrated his big Five O last year –ignores Emmett's remark. "Look at the fine prints, can you see who's taking part in this event?"
"I can't believe it…. Justin??? He'll be taking part in it as a special guest? He'll be stripping off for charity?" Debbie almost chocks as she puts on her reading glasses to read the leaflet. "Ha! I'd love to see THAT," she adds once she's had a chance to catch her breath and have a sip of water.
"No wonder Brian stormed out of here like that knowing that his BOYFRIEND will be stripping in front of strangers while he's here all alone…" Ted says.
"He must be consumed with rage," Emmett nods.
"Despite all his efforts to prove otherwise," Debbie smiles knowingly. "We must do something to cheer him up then, " She concludes.
"Why Mrs. Novotny-Horvath, You ARE a devilish gal," Ted chimes in.
"Guilty as charged," Debbie grins.
"Am I hearing what I think I'm hearing? " Emmett asks.
"I guess so, " Debbie smirks. Emmett's eyes glisten as he turns to his old friend, mouthing 'road trip, road trip' throwing his arms cheerfully in the air.
"Hold onto your rainbow colored feather boas a little while longer boys, at least until AFTER we let Little Sunshine in on our little secret," Debbie says, reaching out to grab the landline phone that's sitting on the counter. "Shit, what's Justin's phone number again?" she smiles in dismay.
"Beats me," Emmett says, pulling his Iphone and pressing the speed dial.
It doesn't take long for Emmett to convince Justin to take part in Brian's Birthday surprise. They proceed to exchange a few more bits of information as for the venue of the charity event and how to get there but then Justin apologize for having to cut the phone conversation short to attend another business meeting. Before they hang up he wishes them good luck in trying to trick Brian into joining them on the long trip out West.
