"So… what IS the difference between soccer and football anyway?" Justin asks, bringing another round of beer to the patio table that overlooks the swimming pool of his and Brian's county house in West Virginia.

"Well, I guess it's all a matter of perspective. I guess you could say each one has a different philosophy behind it." Drew sits back in his chair and starts to explain. "I mean back when I was in professional football SOCCER wasn't as big here as it is today, but…"

"It's all about two teams of men fighting over one ball, and trying to score," Brian explains as he cuts him off.

"Oh, so is THAT why you love that kind of butch sport so much?" Justin teases his lover, continuing the banter.

"You two are terrible!!" Emmett declares; he sounds offended. He takes a loving look at his partner and kisses him gently on his lips. "Go on, baby, I'm ALL ears," he tells him.

"I'm sure you are," Brian teases his friend while Justin giggle-snorts and takes another sip of his beer while smiling in a polite, waspish way. "There's someone at the door. I better go get that," he says as he hears someone knocking.

A few seconds later, he returns with Brian’s best friend and his husband.

"What the fuck took you so long to get here?" Brian turns the conversation in another direction as Michael and Ben enter with Justin in tow.

"WE were trying to get out of Pitts and get here to YOUR country house, but the whole fucking road is closed. It's Pride Weekend, or have you forgotten that?" Michael explains, sulking.

"Which is a huge reason to celebrate, actually," Ben says, sending a comforting look towards his husband. "I mean we all remember the times when we had to fight to have the Pride march in Liberty Avenue, and now it's all over the place, right?"

"We became the mainstream event, what a joy. I'll drink to that," Brian says sarcastically, raising his beer bottle.

"I actually agree with Ben, "Drew responds quietly. "I mean, it sounds obvious now, but back then I could only dream of attending Pride March, let alone standing tall and being PROUD of who I am," he continues, leaning towards Emmett and entwining their fingers together.

Ted and Blake nod quietly as they look at each other from either side of the table.

Brian sits still for a few minutes, gazing at HIS husband and fondly caressing his forearm.
"Fuck! I'll drink to that myself," he decides, raising his beer bottle one more time.

"So… who's watching the game, anyway?" Justin asks after a slight pause.

"It's called a match. They have a match in football; I already told you that last night," Brian reminds him.

"I guess I was otherwise engaged. I didn't listen…" Justin beams back smugly.

"And… this is NOT football, really," Drew intervenes.

"Don't start, Boyd!" Brian warns him with a raised eyebrow, flipping his laptop open to log on to ESPN.com to watch yet another recap of the previous match.

"Okay, guys… since it's THE World Cup for Gays this weekend, I suggest we’d better start getting ready to celebrate as well..," Justin proclaims. "All in favor, say aye…"

"Are you planning on wearing your cute little cowboy outfit?" Brian inquires, tongue-in-cheek.

"The one I was wearing when I was crowned King of Babylon? The one you loooove so much? Sure am, mister. It still fits!" Justin answers proudly as the guys cheer him on.

"Well, then, what are we waiting for? Let's go celebrate THE gay homo holiday, boys!!" Brian exclaims.

"What about the game?" Drew asks.

"Fuck the game!" Brian and Justin answer almost in unison.

On the question of the difference between soccer and football, I think Brian summed it up rather nicely. Guy's fighting over balls. Works for me. Nice to see the whole gang together. Just wondering though - did you mean toe or tow?
