"Rise and shine, Sunshine," I hear your voice call my name.

I pull my arm over my head, leaving my other hand on my chest, where your tongue was busy playing with my nipples just an hour ago.

I’m lifting my head from the pillow ever so slightly, just enough to gaze at you from under my eyelids.

You're stepping out of the bathroom, all ready to start a new day. I'm in no rush, though.

Everything feels like it's finally in its place.

Our house still stands.

We made it our own.

Our bedroom is spacious and airy. There's exactly the right amount of light coming through the French windows to make it perfect without being too ridiculously romantic.

There's just the right amount of country air wafting through the open windows to make it comfortable, but not cause you to blurt out too many sarcastic remarks, and to not make me sneeze my head off because of my damn allergies. Actually, they have been a lot better since I got back from New York City a year ago today.

Our bed is large enough for us to play hard and wild, but it’s also cozy enough for us to snuggle and cuddle.

And the sheets are a lighter shade of cream.

Not grey.

I actually don't feel like getting up. I could lie here, listening to you calling me Sunshine all day.

I don't have to leave by Monday.

No more silent rides to the airport.

You lean towards me, smiling and brushing your lips against mine. I can't help but smile to myself.

This moment is so incredibly sweet, but just enough, not too much.


Knowing you're here, knowing you'll come back to me at the end of a long day, knowing you chose to be with me.

This is what I've always wanted.

You smell like sandalwood and musk oil. I can't figure out why that is, but your distinctive scent still drives me over the edge. You don't seem to mind that I haven’t even brushed my teeth yet.

This is what I've been missing, and more.

You once told me I was too young to settle down. God! I told you you're too old to fuck around.

It all seems so distant now, but yet at the same time so familiar, since we both know how important it is to always count our blessings and celebrate our victories.

"Rise and shine, Sunshine," you encourage me again, much louder this time, your lips curled under with a hint of playful urgency in your voice.

You stretch out your hand to mine as I eventually rise from the bed with a smile of my own.

You know I'm a hopeless romantic, don't you?

We've been together for so long that you've probably gotten used to it by now in your unconventional way.

This is what I've always been waiting for.
