Part 3
"Justin, honey, where are you?" A low, coarse woman's voice suddenly breaks the dense silence of the spacious studio.
"In here, Debbie," Justin answers, sounding like a drowning man.
"I told you I'd be here as soon as I can." Debbie, a redheaded woman in her mid-70's and dressed in a colorful kaftan, says. Her bangles and earrings rattle as she speaks.
"Hello, Baby." She greets Emmett and kisses him on the cheek. "We have to figure out a way to help our Sunshine, don't we?" she continues.
"You're my art agent, not my mother," Justin protests.
"That, too." She lifts a finger, pointing a sharp red fingernail at him.
"Wait… " Emmett inquires, looking sideways at Debbie " Did you tell Justin about the whole thing?".
"I may have said something, yes," Debbie admits. "But the kid needed to know, so I told him straight up. No pun intended." She grabs her bag to search for her cigarettes. "Well, I'm not the one who fucked that floozy; Brian did."
"Debbie, please…" Justin beseeches quietly.
"What?" Debbie takes a drag of her cigarette. "I always told you there's going to be trouble with this guy from the first time I saw him, when he came to your fourth art show."
"He was busy," Justin maintains, still trying for some inexplicable reason to defend him.
"Oh, please… too busy to attend his partner's first ever major art show in New York City? Come on, that is totally fucked." Debbie puffs circles of smoke as she speaks.
"You said he was handsome," Justin points out.
"I also told you he would break your heart and you didn't listen." Debbie's voice softens.
"He was the one who encouraged me to come here," Justin reminds her.
"Well, you know what they say… when the cat's out of the way the mice are out to play or whatever," Debbie quips.
"You're saying he supported the idea of me moving here so that he would continue to fuck around?" Justin says, all teary eyed. "But we agreed on that! Plus he kept the rings. We got engaged! Fuck! " The blond lifts himself off the floor and runs out of the room.
"Happy now?" Emmett hisses towards Debbie.
"Never been more outraged in my life if you must know," Debbie responds sadly in a stone cold voice. "But Justin needs to wake up once and for all and realize this needs to stop. This time the bastard took it too far."
