Part 3

"Are you the primary caregiver for your son?" a nerdy looking clerk asks Brian matter-of-factly the next morning at the agency.

"Yes," Brian answers, scanning the tiny, dreary office.

"Do you have parental rights?" the guy continued.

"Yes," Brian replies, becoming just a little perturbed over all the questions.

"Do you pay child support?" the nerd keeps going.

"I do," Brian says with an exasperated sigh. At least no one's asking him to state his sexual preference here. As if it really is a preference.

"Are you currently employed?" the guy keeps nagging, typing on his computer at a rate of one letter every five minutes, or so it seems to Brian.

"No, I'm not," Brian says. "Why do you think I'm here?" What a moron.

"What happened?" the nerd asks.

"I broke my finger. The doctor told me I can't move it for the next six months," Brian tells him.

"Do you have any medical records?" the nerd drones on.

"Yes, but I didn't bring them here today." Brian feels as if he's a third-grade kid who's been called to the school principal's office.

"What do you do for a living?" the guy asks, not even looking up from his computer.

I'm a sleek, sexy ad man who runs a high class agency and closes three million-dollar deals before he even drinks his morning coffee Brian thinks and shrugs. Yeah, right. In his dreams.

Fuck.

"I'm a mechanic. I work at Horvath and Sons Auto Repair Shop downtown," he states instead.

"Do you have any documents to back up your education level?" the guy asks.

"I took a few courses at the community college a few years back," Brian replies, leaving out the juicy details about fucking a few of his classmates in the back lot late at night. "It was night school, but I think I have the diploma somewhere." Brian keeps talking. God, it's the first time a guy has worn him out when they're outside of the bedroom, and it's not a pleasant experience.

"I guess I won't be able to go back to this kind of work anytime soon, but will I be able to sign up for unemployment?" Brian manages to form one whole sentence despite the numbness in his brain.

"Tell you what." The guy sounds surprisingly sympathetic as he finally looks up from his computer. "Come back here tomorrow morning with all the required forms and documents and I'll see what I can do for you. But let me warn you, it might take a while to find you a new job. And by the way, I'm Ted Schmidt. I'll be your reemployment agent going forward," the guy informs him.

Brian can't wait to get out of there, but he's politely shaking the guy's hand before he steps out of his tiny office.

He's stepping outside Mr. Schmidt's office, ready to get into the elevator, when a slender, small, blond young man steps out of the elevator, holding a thick folder as he almost bumps into Brian's shoulder.

"Is that Mr. Schmidt's office right there? Room Six?" The young man asks, lifting his eyes from a piece of paper he holds in his hand to gaze at Brian. Brian almost falls flat on his face just as he did on Lindsay's front lawn the other day when the guy stares back at him with a pair of the most amazing, crystal-clear blue eyes he has ever seen.

"Yes," Brian answers absentmindedly, afraid he might lose what's left of his composure.

"Good. I was told he's my reemployment agent. I hope I'll be able to pull this one off." The blond keeps rambling but Brian doesn't seem to care.

He swallows hard, quickly contemplating if he should introduce himself at this point. He decides not to.

"Well… good luck." He nods at the blond.

"Same to you." The young guy beams back at him with a smile so bright Brian can't help but nod back before he turns away.

Who knew my weekly visits to the unemployment agency during the summer months would spark the inspiration for a B/J story? ;)
Thank you so much for your kind supportive feedback, my dear Car. It means a lot to me.
More to come soon :D

I feel soooo sorry for Brian. If that unemployment agency works as that kind in my country... it'll be better if he try another way to find a job. But the last meeting was... good 8-)

It's not most pleasant experience, I agree. (esp since I based Ted's character on the actual RL agent I had to meet. The guy couldn't type on a computer even if his life dependent on it but he tried to do his best lol )
But...as you can tell there's more to come ;)
Thank you so much for your heartfelt supportive feedback, my dear. It means a lot.

It's so funny, before I knew the unemployment agent is Ted, while I was reading his dialogue, he talked in my head in Ted's voice. :)
