Part 8

Justin knows that he's overslept because the moment he wakes up his head is spinning and his eyes feels puffy. It takes him a couple of moments to realize where he is, but then he smells eggs and bacon and figures out he's at the nice lady's house.

"You're lucky I'm not working the morning shift at the diner today, Sunshine." She smiles at him as he enters the kitchen. She places a full plate in front of him and takes a seat next to him at the table, refraining from asking any questions.

As Justin devours his late breakfast, Debbie tells him he shouldn't leave the house and advices him to take his time and rest.

"It might not be such a bad idea." Justin smiles back at the kind lady as he gets up from the table to clear his own dishes and wash them in the sink.

"It's okay, you don't have to do that!" She lets out a hearty laugh and reaches out to pick up her ringing phone.

"God, Michael! How can it be? Who did this?" Debbie's face pales in horror as she picks up the phone and listens to her son's frantic words. "Calm down, honey, sure. I'll be right there!" she whispers and hangs up.

"Listen, Sunshine, I really need to go. My son in law is in deep shit trouble," she mumbles as she picks up her purse and coat.

"What's wrong?" Justin asks with concern.

"I don't know yet but he's… they… they've taken him down to the station. Michael says they might even arrest him!" She bursts into tears.

"I can't believe it! What for?" Justin answers in shock. "They think he did that? Fuck! I know who did it, I'm coming with you." He sounds adamant.

"I have no idea why they're doing this. Thanks for your concern, but this is exactly why you have to stay here. It's not safe for you out there," she orders him quietly. "I promise I'll let you know if there's anything new," she assures him before she leaves.
