"Have you ever noticed how the gym is extra crowded the first week in January?" Justin asks me casually.
"Was that a trick question?" I answer, checking my reflection in the mirror.
"Oh I wasn't trying to imply anything, if that's what you think." He crosses the room and presses his body against my naked torso.
"I'm not complaining… I mean at your age… but it's just that it used to be a part of your routine," he whispers.
"Many things used to be part of my routine, twat," I say. "Nowadays we wake up bleary-eyed and the first thing we do is stumble into the bathroom and grab the toothbrush. It’s almost a reflex, right?"
"So… wait, are you suggesting we gave up on other things we used to do because we're slowly drifting into… a… relationship?" he questions.
"That's not what I said." I turn away to walk into the bathroom.
"Hold it right there, Mr. Kinney. Not so fast. Get back here and finish what you started," he says and shuffles his feet into the bathroom.
"Do you mind? I'm trying to take a leak here," I say in protest, holding onto my dick.
"It never bothered you before, as I recall," he answers, standing against the bathroom wall with his arms crossed on his chest.
"You're freaking-out over nothing." I try to ignore Justin's last remark while I flush the toilet.
"Give me a break. You're the greatest drama queen in forever…" He isn't ready to give up yet.
"What's gotten into you? Had too much to drink last night?" I move closer to him.
"Don't change the subject, Brian," he says quietly. "Are you still afraid?"
"What do you want me to say?" I pause. I reach over to the sink to wash my hands with my favorite brand of liquid soap. "I mean… it's like when we decided we might try and cook more meals at home, remember? It doesn't mean we tossed our favorite delivery menu away. Okay, bad example. But… do you understand what I'm trying to say?" I lower my eyes to look straight at him.
"I think so." He takes a deep breath. "I guess this is still one of my old habits. I need to know we're in this together."
"You stupid little twat. Do you think I'm not staying awake at night wondering why you're still here? Thinking about the next time your phone rings and some artsy type would present you with an offer you won't be able to refuse?" My voice breaks. What the fuck…
"So you like the ball and chain?" he says, slightly sniffing his nose.
"You can’t change that…" I answer him, pressing my tongue into my cheek. "Now, off you go and let me shave in quiet."
"In your dreams," he says with a snort and removes the over-sized t-shirt he took from my drawer last night, revealing his beautiful back.
