Brian's pov

"I just want to spend a quiet evening at home this time," I explained to him, as we
finished our breakfast, "and besides, nothing could top last years festivities, right?"

"Well, it just so happened your 40th birthday became a part of our honeymoon last year," Justin purred, "mmm... and speaking of topping..."

I grinned and adjusted my tie. "Maybe in 10 years time, twat," I said and drained my glass of guava juice in one gulp.

"... ok, there goes my present, I'll have to think of something else..." Justin flashed his sunshine smile at me, and leaned in to give me a birthday kiss.


Justin's pov

After Brian left, I went to my studio. The old pain in my right hand had long gone, so it was much easier for me to draw these days. I reached for my sketch pad and pencils and started drawing.

My cell phone distracted me. I put down the sketch pad, smiled as I noticed the caller ID, and kept staring at an unfinished image of baby Gus on the page. The boy will turn 10 in September, his father turned 41 today.

As I answered the phone I knew right away I found the perfect birthday present for my husband. I knew it's something that would make both of us happy.

I knew Brian wouldn’t be home from work until around 10pm. despite the fact it was his birthday. I wanted his birthday surprise to be special. I knew I was not alone in wanting this. It's not like that fantasy I had five years ago when I broke up with Brian and I stayed with Michael and Ben for the night.

It was different this time. We're different.


Brian's pov

Cynthia seemed a bit distracted at work, which wasn't a bad thing because she forgot it was my birthday. Or so I thought. Before I left the office she and Ted handed me a small box wrapped in a colorful gift wrap and told me not to open it until I got home. Haha… so funny. I wasn't in the mood to laugh, actually. I was a bit distracted myself. Justin did get a phone call from the surrogate mother's agency he applied for online, but that was over a week ago, and we haven't heard anything yet.

We've known each other for ten years. We've been monogamous for five years, and we got married last year (and celebrated my big 4-0 in between). I think this is quite an impressive track record for a 41 year old guy, who can still turn heads …but I only care about one special head… and heart… and soul.

I called him from the car’s Bluetooth system, as usual, about 20 minutes before I entered the driveway. He sounded quite giddy.

I saw an unfamiliar red car parked in the drive as I pulled in. Fuck, I told him I didn't want any strange guests for my birthday…

Justin's pov

That was the first time I met Ann. She was about 19, quite tall and lean. She had pale skin and long blonde hair. I was so glad she called me today when I was in my studio, drawing that picture of Gus. I was showing it to her as we sat in the living room and I heard Brian come into the hallway.

Brian had a huge smile on his face as he entered the living room and reached his hand out to greet her. She was obviously impressed.

We drank red wine and she congratulated Brian on his birthday. She apologized for not meeting us sooner because she had to study for her exams. Then she said she would be more than happy to help us have a baby.

Brian and I looked at each other, and held back the urge to kiss. Ann looked at us and giggled. "Oh, go ahead, kiss, you too," she said, and as my lips touched Brian's I knew we found what we had been looking for.
