I will never forget that moment - the moment my dad looked at me with so much hate in his eyes.

I always felt protected and loved as a child. Even when he noticed I wasn’t much of a baseball player, he didn't say anything.

We drifted apart when I was 17. My mom didn't tell him; not right away. She promised me she wouldn't, but eventually she did. I will never forget that moment when we stood in the kitchen and I told them I loved Brian more than anything.

I might have been young, but I wasn't innocent.

My own father was willing to give up on me. Brian said I was brave. I didn't feel brave that night, but I knew I couldn’t let it happen. Never again.

I learned to live without him.

I didn't miss him when I woke up each day with the man I loved beside me.

I didn't miss him when I saw my first painting in a gallery.

I didn't miss him when I said my vows.

I didn't miss him when Brian and I finally decided to go online and search for a surrogate mother for my baby. Our baby.
