Part 7
-A couple of weeks later, Debbie's café, Brixton, London-
"Still no word from… him?" Daphne asks as she and Justin finish their breakfast.
"Nope Daph. Look, I really appreciate your concern, but I wish you would stop talking about it," Justin answers quietly. "I don't want to cry over spilt milk and all that. I guess I was having a slight, wide-eyed, romantic, sort of Bridget Jones moment there, but it's over now. Anyway, I thought you might be pleased to know I have accepted my mother's offer to spend the holidays with them in Dorset," he adds, letting out a dry, humorless laugh. It was clear he wasn’t especially looking forward to it.
"Well, you've got to keep on laughing, because if you don't, you might as well just start crying, you know?" Debbie can’t help sharing her particular type of wisdom with Justin from behind the counter.
"I think it's great you'll be spending time with your family," Daphne comments. "Even if it's not one of your favorite things."
"At least I've got until next Monday to get used to the idea," Justin nods absently as he tends to his phone. "Bloody hell!" he growls then, leaving Daphne and Debbie quite alarmed.
"Is there something wrong, sweetie?" Debbie asks, walking out from behind the counter to stand closer to Justin.
"The nerve of this guy… I can't bloody believe it," Justin mutters eventually. "We haven't spoken or contacted each other in almost two weeks, and now he's emailing me ever so casually, letting me know he's got this new ad campaign which requires an overseas trip and that he'll arrive in London next Sunday, and he would love for us to hook up." He puts his phone down on the counter and shakes his head in astonishment. Just when he thought he had forgotten this man…He continues to sit there quietly while both women stare at him curiously.
"I guess it wouldn’t hurt just to see him, you know? I mean, you'll be leaving on Monday anyway to travel to the countryside …" Daphne reminds him, not sure whether to encourage her friend or not.
"And a nice shag wouldn't be half bad, ain't it?" Debbie chimes in with a wink and a hearty laugh.
"You lot are terrible friends," Justin points out as he rolls his eyes. "But I love you," he adds with a grin.
"Best of luck, luv, I'll say that," Debbie replies with a smile while Daphne nods in agreement.
