Part 3
"Where are we?" Justin asks after a slight pause.
"Don't tell me you're scared, Sunshine. Come on, you're a journalist. Haven't you heard of real journalism before? The best part about getting a story is to be really involved in it, get into it, feel it, experience it. There's more to a story than just a bunch of details you can Google from your IPhone, you know,” Brian says with his familiar, distinctive smirk.
Justin isn't ready to give into Brian's sarcastic remarks; however, his curiosity is only surpassed by the fact that he's really overwhelmed and, well, turned on by the vision of Brian's face at this point to answer him back. And yes, he actually IS into real journalism. And what the fuck was this place, anyway?
"This place is where I used to hang out when I was your age, Sonny Boy," Brian says as he parks the Jeep in a dark alley behind a rather run down, old-looking diner.
"I thought you didn't like to talk about your age, Mr. Kinney," Justin snorts as he's peering out of the window to check out their surroundings more closely.
"To experience perfection is a privilege, regardless of the price," Brian huffs as they get out of the car. He grabs Justin by the back of his head to lead the way to the front of the alley where it still looks a bit run down and outdated, but at least it's more lit.
"What the fuck are you talking about?" Justin asks.
"You'll see…" Brian answers.

"Hi, Baby, long time, no see!" A redheaded woman in a colorful apron approaches Brian as they enter inside and plants a kiss on his cheek while Justin peers over at her in shock. When he gets over his initial shock, it takes him a few more minutes to get accustomed to the aroma of bacon and eggs frying in oil at 8 p.m., and to the green linoleum floor and green leatherette covers on the chairs everywhere.
"Have a seat, sweetie, I reserved your usual place," the woman informs Brian with a wink as he slides into a nearby booth. "Vic will be right with you." The woman is about to turn on her heels, but then she turns back around to face Brian so she can take a closer look at Justin who’s standing beside his partner, smiling in an uncharacteristically sheepish way.
"Who's this fine, young man?" she says curiously. "Is this the famous Justin Taylor?"
Justin feels as if he's lost for words, which is a rather frightening thought for him. He nods and reaches his hand out to the red-haired women.
"Hi, sweetie, I'm Debbie. I'm Vic's sister, by the way," she introduces herself as she turns to face Brian. "Can I get you anything, or are you still on your strict, ‘no carbs after 7 p.m.’ diet?" she snorts at Brian.
Justin tries to make himself comfortable in the booth beside Brian. It feels so weird to him, not because he's somewhat out of his comfort zone, but because it feels as though it's a part of Brian's life he was never a part of, and maybe never will be. He swallows hard, feeling like he just wants to be hugged by the taller man beside him so they could be in their own safe place.
He leans into Brian and feels the warmth of his body through his soft, cashmere, designer, winter coat. "Hug me," he mouths, and to his surprise Brian slips his arm around Justin's waist right away and reaches out to hold his hand in his, entwining their fingers.
"Here he is!" Brian's voice trembles slightly when a middle-aged man with salt-and-pepper hair walks into the diner.
"Brian!" the man greets him as he moves towards them, looking rather thrilled himself. "It's been too long," he says as he takes his seat at the other side of the table in the booth. "And you're Justin, I take it?" he continues.
Justin nods and smiles. So apparently these people know who he is because Brian told them, but it's Justin who's got some more introductions to do.
"Pleased to meet you, Vic," Justin acts like the waspish, young man he can still be from time to time. And now what? He can't possibly say "Brian told me all about you," because Brian obviously hadn’t.
"I guess you're wondering why Brian summoned me here," Vic says to Justin's relief. He’s glad that this older man seems to understand how curious he is.
"I guess you could say that," Justin admits with a smile.
"Brian told me you're a journalist. He seems to think it would be interesting if I told you some of my stories. For some reason he seems to think queers everywhere would be more interested in reading about me than about this new guy… Daley, is that his name?" Vic asks.
Justin's eyes open wide as he stares over at Vic. He nods. “Yes. Can you tell me why that is?” He asks as he leans forward over the table.
"Well, I think it’s better if I show you first," Vic replies mysteriously with a smile of his own. "I know my sister won't like it, but I think we might need to get out of here now," he points out as Debbie approaches the table.
"We're leaving, Sis; I hope you don't mind. I have to show Justin here around town. Will you be joining Rodney and me for lunch on Sunday? We'd love for you and Carl to join us," he says.
"Who's Rodney?" Justin inquires quietly as he and Brian wait by the door for Vic to get in a few more words with Debbie.
"His husband," Brian explains.
"I see," Justin answers. There are so many things he needs to ask Brian at this point, but it doesn't seem like Brian wants to answer just yet, at least not for now, so despite his extreme curiosity he doesn't ask anything else.
________________________________________________________________________
It's almost midnight when Justin stumbles into the hallway of Britin with Brian behind him.
"You're so fucking shit-faced, Sunshine," Brian teases, reaching up under Justin's shirt to caress his warm skin.
"I'm not duwank," Justin tries to protest "and besides, it was your old-time friend Vic who started it. Fuck, the man can drink! And where the hell did he find all those bars? I never knew those places still existed," Justin mumbles into Brian's mouth. They both giggle quietly as they climb upstairs to their bedroom. After a short but drunken fuck under a spray of warm water in the shower, Justin throws himself face down in bed and buries his damp head in the pillow.
“Okay, I'm ready to be spanked now, Mr. Kinney," he informs Brian who's lying beside him, sporting an impressive erection.
"Not that I would mind it, but may I ask why you are being punished?" Brian inquires.
"That was my end of the deal, remember? I told you earlier that if I declined to write that article about your friend Vic Grassi you would get to spank me. Go on, get to it. I haven't got all night. I have to get up rather early. Those vultures from all the other gay rags around have probably nailed an interview with Tom Daley by now, while I was listening to this old queen going on and on about whatever the fuck...” Justin answers.
"He's not an old queen," Brian states a little abruptly.
"Fine, but I'm not doing it. Sorry, Brian. If you want it so much, you can write that article yourself. I'm not interested." Justin informs him. He takes a deep breath of anticipation, waiting for Brian's side of the bed to rise and for his partner to go downstairs and sit in the living room with a glass of JB as he normally does whenever Justin challenges him. That's something even Justin hasn’t been able to change about Brian after so many years together. At least it had progressed to drinking in the living room, rather than walking out the door to go clubbing and fucking all night as he used to do in the first few years after they met.
“I wanted you to do it, you twat," Brian says with surprising seriousness after a short pause. Brian pulls him toward his body and wraps his arms around him. Justin takes another deep breath and rolls over in bed to lie on his side and face his partner. He leans into him, surprised to see Brian still there beside him and not drowning his sorrow in a glass of JB instead. They lock their lips in a deep, noisy, comforting kiss.
"Why is it so important to you that I be the one to work on this story?" Justin asks, leaning his head into the crook of Brian's neck as they break the kiss.
