Part 4
"You'd better go easy on that kid," Debbie warns, as she's picking up the empty plates from the table and handing Brian his takeout bag.
"I must find a way to get to the bottom of it, Debbie." Brian sighs as he throws a few dollar bills on the table.
"I will try to pretend I didn't hear the million and one innuendos that are hidden in that sentence." Debbie smirks. "But good luck."
Brian walks out into the street. It's a rather chilly early afternoon. He leans against his car and drags a cigarette packet from his jacket pocket.
As he's struggling with the lighter he notices the blond young guy, Justin, standing on the curb, leaning against a lamppost, whispering into his phone.
"Need a ride?" he asks as he approaches him.
"Will you stop bothering me?" Justin snaps again.
"Fine with me, it's just that it looks like your friend took off and you have no ride back," Brian takes his time to explain.
"Good job, Detective. But no thanks. I'll be fine. My sister Molly is picking me up, if you need to know," he answers, his eyes unexpectedly meeting Brian's.
"Was that her on the phone with you just now?" Brian asks, his eyes still resting on Justin's.
"What's it to you? Fuck! I don't have to tell you anything!" Justin lashes out.
"Sorry," Brian grumbles after a few minutes, pulling his lips inward. "I know it must be hard for you."
Justin shrugs his shoulders, his eyes instinctively drawn towards Detective Kinney's crotch. Talk about hard...
Justin lets out a short, dry cough.
"Are you okay?" Brian asks. Could it be that the boy noticed his hard -on?
"I'm fine. Here's my sister now," he says and waves towards a strawberry blond, slender young woman in a red Ford Fiesta. "Thanks for lunch," he states quietly before getting into his sister's car. A few seconds later, it takes off and disappears around the bend.
