Pumpkin pie! Family! More pumpkin pie! There’s plenty to love about Thanksgiving, but let’s be real—it can get hectic, and if you’re celebrating with a significant other, it can take its toll on your relationship. But let's face it, after living with my significant other for the past 12 years (7 of them in our home in the countryside ) nothing can take a toll on me anymore.
Well, that's what I had in mind, anyway, when I suggested to Brian that we'll host T day dinner at Britin this year with our extended family.
Surprisingly enough my significant other was more than happy to oblige and even offered to buy groceries , run errands, and make sure we're both on the same page as to our schedule—and a shared to-do list all without even asking for Cynthia's help, providing I'll do the cooking, or most of it, at least.
"Things would be just fine, Sunshine" He said, taking one last gulp of guava juice before he got up from the breakfast table. " Don't you worry, nothing will ruin your post-turkey nap…" He grinned and bent down to nibble at my ear.
Sure, it’s a holiday. that’s all about family time and togetherness… but all that togetherness can really make you crazy, I smiled to myself as Brian went outside to the driveway leaving a trail of tantalizing sandelwood scent behind.
" Hi, it's me…" I whispered playfully into my phone not more than 10 minutes later. I knew he was smiling to himself as he heard my voice through the speakers of his car phone.
"You know, I read somewhere that it is really important to reconnect with a little one-on-one time during the holiday … take a post-gorging walk around the block, pick up coffee for the family the morning after, or offer to run a last-minute errand together whoops! No one remembered to buy the turkey" I continued.
"And… I've been thinking… there's no time like Thanksgiving to get schmaltzy and tell your significant other how much you appreciate them and why. Once the festivities are behind us , you could really thank me…"
"Well, why won't we just start getting all schmaltzy now?" Brian answered. "Give me 20 minutes tops, I'll be right there."
