"Thanks for meeting me, Daph," Justin whispered, letting his breath create small frosty circles in the air. "I couldn't possibly meet you over at Michael and Ben's."

"I know."

"Brian came to the house yesterday. He must have heard I was there. He didn't know I was standing at the top of the stairs. He didn't realize I heard him talking to Michael. Well, it was impossible not to hear - they were both shouting."

"Why were they shouting?" Daphne asked, reaching out to hold Justin's hand.

Justin's voice sounded shallow. "Because of me. Michael blamed Brian for my leaving.”

"Well, don't you?" Daphne asked gently. She and Justin barely saw each other nowadays, but she still knew him well.

"I do, actually, but it still hurt to hear. I still love Brian even if we're not going in the same direction anymore." He paused. "Brian said that I was perfectly happy until Michael infected me with his ideas about a husband and a home," Justin whispered under his breath.

"Oh, wow, that was rather harsh," Daphne commented, "But… you’ve always had those dreams, haven’t you? I'm sure Brian knew that."

"I thought I was over those dreams, but when I saw how happy Michael and Ben are in their new home, I felt… well… why can't Brian and I have that?"

"You know I love you Justin, and I want you to be happy, but let's face it, maybe you and Brian can never have that."

"So… you're saying we're … over?" Justin shivered slightly.

"I'm not saying that, and don't you ever think that. I know you two still love each other, but maybe you need to find something that’s right for you."

"That doesn't sound too comforting. Brian and I might never reach a compromise." Justin took a deep breath.

"When the time is right, you'll know." Daphne hugged her friend.

"Why do I have to carry all the weight in the relationship? I want him to be a part of it too…" Justin lowered his eyes.

"He is. He just needs more time to realize that."

"How can you be sure? I'm not even sure how long I'll be able to wait for him."

"Something tells me you two will find a way. I don't know when or where, but I know you will, eventually. Now… let's go have some coffee. It's fucking freezing out here."
