I'm trying to change my layout

I think It's time for me to move on from my current layout into another phase.
I found out a really cool community here, and checked on some entries of some very creative and kind peopole who also took the time to explain in great detail how it should be done, step by step.
and yet... I'm sitting here for the past hour or so and I can't even begin to understand those explenetion. I'm sooo lame at those things.
help?!
