7 months later
"The little guy has blue eyes," Gus mentioned, as he bent over Adam's stroller to have a closer look.
Gus was staying with them over the Fourth of July weekend. The weather had been warming up, so Justin decided to take the kids out and sit with them by the pool.
"Can I hold him?" Gus asked after a few minutes
"Oh, ok, but make sure you support the back of his head," Justin explained. Baby Adam could balance his little head on his own, but he still needed close attention.
Gus held the baby in his arms and cradled him on his knees. The baby wore some little denim overalls and was barefoot. Gus lightly tickled his tiny toes and handed him his favorite toy. The baby reached his little hand towards the toy, grabbed it by himself and put it in his mouth.
Brian came out of the house wearing a black tank and shorts, and approached them. "Hi, guys," he beamed at them.
"Hi, Dad! Where have you been?" Gus asked, his eyes fixed on his dad's tall impressive figure.
"Working out," Brian answered, looking at Justin and biting his lips.
"You should have been here. Adam just grabbed that toy all by himself and put it in his mouth. That was really cool," Gus reported, still marveling over the baby's antics.
"Well, the kid's a genius," Brian smirked, and stretched his body out on the chaise lounge.
"Just like his big brother," Gus answered back, and noticed the baby was rubbing his eyes. "I think he needs to take a nap," he pointed out knowingly.
Justin gently took the baby out of Gus’ arms and handed him his pacifier.
The little guy sucked on it and his eyelids slowly closed. Justin gently put him back into his stroller and moved it into the shaded area.
"Can I go for a swim?" Gus asked Justin.
"OK, but we're having lunch in 30 minutes. Your dad promised to BBQ for the entire gang. They'll be here soon," Justin grinned
As the boy got up and moved to the far side of the pool, Justin reached his fingers to caress the sleeping baby on his soft cheek, and then moved on to caress Brian's lips.
"You've got two very smart kids, Mr. Kinney," he whispered.
"In more ways than one," Brian whispered back into Justin's ear. He reached down Justin’s body, the palm of his hand finding his lover's crotch.
"Save that for later, tiger. We've got to start preparing lunch," Justin giggled joyfully.
"It's your turn, Sunshine," Brian whispered in a raspy voice; he gently poked his partner's naked shoulder as their one year old baby called out from the nursery for his 3 a.m. snack.
"I remember a time, not so long ago, when you relished those words," Brian continued teasingly while Justin reluctantly buried his blond mop into the pillow. "Hey, that’s mine," Brian playfully protested as Justin snagged his side of the pillow and nestled into it.
"Ok, ok, I'm up," he said after a few minutes, dragging himself out of the warm bed and moving towards Adam’s crib.
"You're never down," Brian pointed out the obvious.
After the baby finished his bottle and his dad went back to bed, there was no way Brian and Justin could go back to sleep. They had a sweet, slow, 4 a.m. fuck. They were trying to keep their voices down and they managed barely whispered moans as they came. Then Justin cuddled into his partner's warm chest, giggled, and gave in to Brian's long, familiar fingers playing with the strands of his hair.
"Don't know if Gus ever woke up at 3 a.m. when he was one year old ," Brian mentioned in a low voice.
"Maybe that’s because you were never there when he got up at 3 a.m.," Justin said softly, "but you're here now." Justin knew his partner so well. He knew better than to pick at that old scab anymore.
Brian noticed that and leaned into Justin's open lips for a long and grateful kiss.
They closed their eyes and cradled into each other in the darkness, listening to the baby's soft breaths from across the wall.
"Don't you want to start painting again?" Brian asked, suddenly.
"I will, eventually," Justin replied, "but I'm busy creating other wonders now. And I'm good at it, too. Oh and remind me to install that graphic software for Gus tomorrow. He would love to play around with it over the weekend,"
"Like father like son," Brian groaned as Justin playfully slapped him on his lower back.
"You corny little twat," Brian whispered into Justin's hair.
"Love you, too." Justin smiled and wrapped his arms around Brian's waist.
