Justin's pov

I was staring at the medium size canvas when I finally decided to fill it with long, sweeping brush strokes. It was supposed to be a landscape piece for a group show at a contemporary art gallery in Tribeca, in a week's time.

As I applied the paint to the canvas, all I could think about was the phone conversation I'd had with Brian this morning.

He has never asked me when I’m coming back. He wants me to take all the time I need. He doesn't want me to ask "what if," but I was constantly asking it of myself.

This morning was the first time in six months that Brian asked me that himself.

This morning was the first time in six months that the lump in my throat slowly dissolved.

I finally knew.

Brian's pov

I have to go on another boring business trip to Chicago in a week's time, so I just needed to hear Justin's voice. He’s been away for six months already. We talk on the phone a few times a day, everyday, and we’ve spent a couple of (too short) weekends together at Britin.

Babylon is still my playground, but I have different rules now. I saw Brandon there last night. The bastard looked at me as he moved towards the backroom with a blond, young trick, and I didn't even wink.

The next morning, I called Justin again just before the car came to pick me up to go to the airport. I never ask him when he'll be back. I never ask him "what if" because I don’t want him to question himself.

Until that morning.

I knew.

Justin's pov

I held the paintbrush in my hand, letting the moss green paint run all over my cargo pants and onto the floor. He asked me when I think I might be coming back. At last!

I love it out here, but I never actually lived in NYC. I live in a little dump of an apartment in Brooklyn. This show in Tribeca is the first real art show I have managed to get in six months. Pittsburgh had something NYC didn't.

I knew I had to go back.
